Percutaneous ascending aortic replacement is limited by inadequate distal landing zones, poor proximal support, and mechanical failure of the stented graft. We investigated the feasibility of using a stented valved conduit for the replacement of the ascending aorta. Animal study. Academic medical center. Fourteen sheep. Percutaneous femoral placement of the valved conduit. A self-expandable, valved polytetrafluoroethylene graft (Coronary Artery Graft; MC3, WL Gore & Associates) was placed through a femoral artery approach. Two sheep (group 1) underwent conventional open aortic replacement using the same valved graft. Eight sheep (group 2) underwent transfemoral replacement using the valved graft. Hemodynamic parameters were measured before and after ascending aortic replacement. Animals were killed at 4 weeks. Tissue was harvested for morphologic and histologic analysis.
